Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the things people ask us most.

Training with the Academy

Who can join the Create Academy?

The Academy is open to adults (18+) who have experienced homelessness, are at risk of it, or face other barriers to work. No previous experience or qualifications are needed — just a willingness to give it a go.

Does training cost anything?

No. All Academy training is completely free. We also help with travel costs, provide work clothing and safety shoes, and serve lunch on training days.

Will I get a qualification?

Yes. Kitchen programmes include the Level 2 Food Hygiene & Safety certificate, and every graduate receives a Create Academy certificate plus a professional reference.

What if I’ve never cooked before?

That’s absolutely fine. Many trainees start with no kitchen experience at all. Our Confidence & Wellbeing Starter is designed as a gentle first step, and chefs teach everything from the basics.

Will training affect my benefits?

In most cases, taking part in training does not affect benefits, and we provide travel and lunch rather than cash. Our team can help you check your own situation with your work coach before you start.

Is there support after the course ends?

Yes. Next Steps Mentoring offers up to 12 months of support, including CVs, interviews, travel to work and check-ins once you’ve started a job.

Referrals

Do I need a referral?

Not at all. You can contact us yourself, or a support worker, hostel, charity or job centre can refer you using our simple referral form.

How quickly will you respond to a referral?

We aim to contact every person referred within three working days to arrange an informal chat and a taster day.

Catering & the restaurant

How do I book catering for an event?

Tell us your date, guest numbers and the kind of food you have in mind using the enquiry form on our Catering page, or call the events team. We usually reply within one working day with a tailored quote.

Can you cater for dietary requirements?

Yes. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and other dietary needs are catered for as standard. Please tell us about allergies when you book and we’ll provide full allergen information.

How far in advance should I book?

For larger events we recommend at least four weeks’ notice. For working lunches, 48 hours is usually enough. Do ask, as we can often help at shorter notice.

How can I support the Foundation?

You can book us for catering (every booking funds training), volunteer as a mentor, offer jobs to our graduates, or partner with us as a business. Get in touch through our Get involved page.
